Jack Kerouac 'On The Road'

lino cutting of old hornsey parish motto

The old motto was 'the better prepared the stronger'. In the middle is the Town Hall. I realised after doing this that the text is backwards! oops. Have yet to see a print from it.

Set Design: Hornsey Town Hall

These are photo's from some of the rooms in Hornsey Town Hall after we had sourced props and given the rooms a 1930's authentic feel. The rooms include; the supper room, the ladies dressing room, the architects room and the mayors parlour.

Hornsey Town Hall

Old 1930's art deco building. I'm working with theatre production company 19;29, helping with props and design for 4 upcoming productions. Three small ones starting next weekend and a big one in November. They utilise disused spaces and buildings for their plays. The old Hornsey Town Hall is their venue for the big one in November, before it is renovated. The Hall hasn;t been used since the 80's.

Props for 'a little neck'...

Helping out with props for Goat and Monkey's new production in Hampton Court. The play is called 'A Little Neck' and is a story of the life of Anne Boleyn.
I helped make latx foetus' (nice), sashes, candles, lanterns and flags. Am going to the dress rehearsal on 13.09.09 to get photos of props in action!

Pillowcases...

Text from found notes hand stitched onto new white pillowcases. The idea was to make the notes desirable in some way. Everybody loves the feeling of sliding between fresh clean sheets. I wanted to show the juxtaposition of the grubby found text and the clean white pillow case.

Postcards...

Old postcards bought at a vintage shop. I have read them and given each one a new twist by adding my own imaginary story to it. Each one like a secret or confession that the writer didn't want to admit to.

Map and calendars...

Screen printed maps showing exact locations of found notes and objects. Blue printed calendars showing dates.

Found and Bound books...

The notes are compiled to form two volumes of Found and Bound. Each note slipped inside its own plastic sleeve, documented and displayed in chronological order.

Labels...

I kept logbooks and noted the times, dates, street names, postcodes and grid references of each find and made labels to accompany the found objects.

The dig...

Why stick with things that are found above ground? Here are some photos from my own Big Dig.
